About Paycheck State Calc
Paycheck State Calc is take-home pay calculators for the 2026 tax year. Each state page works out federal income tax withholding, Social Security and Medicare, and the state and local deductions that apply in that state, and shows every line separately so you can match it to a pay stub. The site also has a 1099 checker for contractor payments and calculators for bonus, overtime and severance pay.
Paycheck State Calc is an independent project; it is not a payroll provider, an accounting firm or a government service.
Where the numbers come from
Every rate is taken from a primary government document and stored with that document and the date it was checked. Current figures were verified on 2026-10-30. Each rate update is checked against the original source documents listed below.
- Federal income tax withholding: IRS Publication 15-T (2026), percentage method for automated payroll systems.
- Social Security and Medicare: IRS Publication 15 (2026). Social Security is 6.2% up to the $184,500 wage base for 2026; Medicare is 1.45% with no cap, plus 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax on wages above $200,000 from one employer.
- California: EDD Method B withholding tables (DE 44) and SDI.
- New York: NYS Department of Taxation and Finance withholding tables (NYS-50-T-NYS).
- Illinois: Illinois Department of Revenue, 2026 IL-700-T withholding tables.
- Pennsylvania: Pennsylvania Department of Revenue (3.07% personal income tax).
- Michigan: Michigan Department of Treasury 2026 rate and withholding information.
- Washington: Employment Security Department and paidleave.wa.gov (Paid Family & Medical Leave), wacaresfund.wa.gov (WA Cares).
- Texas and Florida: no individual income tax under the Texas Constitution (Art. VIII, §24) and the Florida Constitution (Art. VII, §5).
Each state page lists its own sources and verification date at the bottom of the page.
How the calculation works
The calculator annualises your pay for the pay frequency you choose, applies the federal percentage-method tables to your Form W-4 elections, adds FICA, then applies the state's own withholding rules. The full method, the states covered and what each calculator leaves out are on the how it works page.
The numbers you type are calculated in your browser. They are not sent to us and are not stored.
Limits
- Results are estimates of withholding, not your final tax bill. Your employer's payroll settings and pre-tax deductions (for example retirement or health plans) can change the result.
- Some local taxes are not yet included, such as New York City and Yonkers tax and the Pennsylvania Local Services Tax. Detroit city rates do not yet have an official citation.
- States whose figures have not been verified do not have a calculator page yet.
This site is general information, not tax, legal or financial advice. For decisions about your own taxes, check with the IRS, your state revenue department or a qualified tax professional.
