Press and data use
Everything needed to cite, quote or embed the 2026 take-home pay dataset: what it contains, the figures we have verified, the citation formats and the chart embed code.
What the dataset is
The 2026 take-home pay dataset covers seven states (California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas and Washington), three salaries ($50,000, $75,000 and $100,000) and two filing statuses (single and married filing jointly). That is 42 rows, one for each combination.
Each row gives gross salary, federal income tax withholding, Social Security, Medicare, state income tax, state payroll deductions, net annual pay and net pay as a share of gross. Every row also carries the identifiers of the documents the figures came from and the date the figures were checked (2026-11-02 for this edition), so a quoted number can be traced back to the source.
The method is described on the methodology page, including the withholding tables, the rounding rule and the cases the figures do not cover.
Key figures at $75,000
| State | Filing status | Net pay on $75,000 | Share of gross |
|---|---|---|---|
| Texas | Single | $61,592.44 | 82.1% |
| Texas | Married filing jointly | $64,634.44 | 86.2% |
| California | Single | $57,565.30 | 76.8% |
| California | Married filing jointly | $62,178.22 | 82.9% |
How the figures are produced
Federal withholding uses the percentage-method tables in IRS Publication 15-T for the 2026 tax year. Social Security is 6.2% up to the annual wage base, Medicare is 1.45% with no cap, and each state line follows that state's own withholding document. The worked example shows the arithmetic line by line for one paycheck.
